Nandi Awards Function 2004  

Nandi Awards function is conducted today evening at Lalitha Kalatoranam. The awards ceremony was graciously celebrated. The function started off with the classical dance performance by actress Prabha. The function was officially started with the traditional lights lit by CM YSR, Dasari, V.B.Rajendra Prasad, G.Adi Seshagiri Rao, Kantha Rao, Gummadi, K.V,Ramanachari. Smt Vijayasri redenred the Maa Telugu Talliki song. K.V.Ramanachari delivered his welcoming speech. Following the formal start off, chief guest Dasari Narayana Rao delivered his speech. He criticized the film industry being partial. He said that congress has always supported the industry. But he is disappointed that when it came to election not even a single artist came forward to support congress. He also commented that there is a necessity to support low budget films. He did not agree with just 4 big movies becoming hit would help the industry. He proposed a plan with the CM to allot 5 crores to the FDC so that the makers could dare to make some classic films. He mentioned that now a days we dont make even one film that would reach the national level. Following his speech, he inaugurated the souvenier of this year's Nandi Awards. 

V.B.Rajendra Prasad was honored with state Government's Raghupathi Venkayya award by CM Y.Rajasekhar Reddy. Gummadi Venkateswara Rao submitted his report about the Nandi Awards and present situation of Telugu films. Sri Chatla Sriramulu read this report out to the audience. The report reads that the winners were selected based on various criteria. There are few categories, which didnot have a single entry. The report criticized the present trend of Telugu films. "Too many artificial elements like 10 sumo blasts, hero thrashing 100 goons, are spoiling the quality", opined the report. 

CM YSR spoke on this occassion. He said that he didnot watch even a single movie in the last 20 years. However, he sat with the industry folks and is working out a solution to eradicate piracy. Also he extended his friendly hand to the industry. Retorting on the 5 crores fund requested by Dasari, CM said "what would happen to my projects if I give you the 5 crores. So I can help you with anything except money". 

The awards were distributed by CM. Mahesh Babu commented on his award and said that this Nandi goes to his father. The rest of the event progressed with the distribution of the awards.
