Summer skin 101: protecting you and your skin from the summer sun

(NC)-Summer fun is in full swing and chances are you're spending a lot of time outdoors enjoying it. If you're not careful you may be over-exposing your skin to the sun's harmful rays. Sunburn, skin cancers and other sun-related conditions are at the forefront of our minds but those harmful ultraviolet rays (UV) are also the culprits in early signs of aging, also known as photodamage. 

With another month left to the summer, it may be a great time for a quick refresher course in skin protection. By taking action against the sun, you not only lower your risk in developing skin cancer, but you improve your chances of maintaining the youthful appearance of your skin. 

Fun in the Sun 

Sunscreen plays an important role in sun safety with benefits to be seen for years to come. Regularly using sunblock not only aids in sun protection but also prevents dehydration and signs of premature aging caused by sun exposure. Sunscreens containing non-chemical filters such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, like RoC Minesol Mineral Sunblock Cream SPF 40, help in preventing irritation to the skin associated with or related to chemical filters. Love the Summer Shade 

Don't forget your eyes! Wearing sunglasses that provide 100 percent UV protection can prevent eye cancer or cataracts and will protect the sensitive skin around your eyes from sun exposure. Wrap-around glasses work best because they block the rays from entering on the side.
