Mammootty & Kamal again ! :
Mammootty always had a soft corner for director Kamal, as some of his most memorable movies like Azhagiya Ravanan were made by him. Now Mammootty, has given dates to Kamal from February 18. Kamal who is going through a dark period after his recent off-beat films like Manjupole Oru Penkutty and Perumazhakalam bombed at the box-office, was looking for a superstar to salvage his career. Mammootty plays a bus conductor in this film titled Neru. Kamal is also trying to rope in Meera Jasmine to play a crucial role in the film.

Jayasurya in a fix! :
Everybody in the Malayalam film industry thought that Jayasurya who started off as a mimicry artist turned TV anchor had the potential to make it big as a comedy hero. He also had the secret support of superstars who wanted to curtail the popularity of Dileep.
Jayasurya also had the backing of leading actor, producer and distributor Lal of Lal Creations who made films with him like Pulivaal Kalyanam and Chathikatha Chanthu both hits.Director Rafi Mecartin also supported the young hero who has a way with people. Moreover his films were made at one third the cost of Dileep films and he was the next best alternative for films that were rejected by the “Comedy King”.Now Jayasurya’s “Godfather” Lal is not backing any of his projects this year for some strange reasons. Lal is going to distribute three Mammootty films in 2005, with Thommante Makkal due for Vishu. So, poor Jayasurya is in a fix. His next release Immini Nalloral with Navya Nair is releasing on January 14 as such there is no publicity, as distributors are still not sure if the film will release!

Vesham Vs Amritham :

What happens when two films with the same storyline hits the screens on the same day? One with the bigger star will scrape through while the other will sink without a trace- and that’s what happened to Mammootty’s Vesham and Jayaram’s Amritham.
Both the films released for Christmas and Jayaram’s Amritham has taken a beating at the Kerala box-office. This Sibi Malayil directed family entertainer had Padmapriya, Arun and Bhavana in supporting roles and the story was about a sacrificing elder brother who dotes on his family especially his younger brother. Amritham failed to take an opening and in smaller stations like Chalakudy, the film was holdover on the first day itself! Now theatres in Kerala are trying to drag it so that it can complete two weeks!

Mohanlal's Hey Taxi :

A new girl will be the heroine of the film. The film is expected to release in April.

Priyamani's new Malayalam film :
Priyamani has signed up a new film in Malayalam. The last time you saw her on the Malayalam screens was in the film 'Sathyam' that marked Prithviraj's entry into action genre. For various reasons, media had underplayed the film's success at the box office. But, all the glamour that Priyamani had shown in the film hasn't gone wasted.
She now stars in 'Otta Naanayam'. Suresh Kannan is going to direct the film produced by Balu Cine International. Shooting begins shortly in Ernakulam. They still haven't announced the hero of the film but the rest of the cast includes Jagadi, Harishri Ashokan, Salim Kumar, Shrinath and others. Vipin Mohan is the cinematographer.

Mani is `Ben Johnson`! in a Malluwood cinema :

The latest craze among producers in South is to make film after famous sport personalities. First it was Sachin in Tamil with Vijay as hero and now Kalabhavan Mani is doing a film titled Ben Johnson after world’s most famous athlete. Mani plays Johnson a runner who is lovingly called Ben Johnson by his friends. He gets into the Kerala police in sports quota and cleans up the city of its mafia! The film is directed by Anil Menon whose last film with Kalabhavan Mani Malsaram was big hit especially in B and C stations. The script is by T.A.Shaheed the hit script writer of films like Malsaram, Balettan, Natturajavu and Mambazhakalam.

Lal in dual role:

After completing, Thommanum Makkalum, Lal will join the sets of Njan Banglavil Ouda. This film is produced by Sukumaran whose earlier film was Swayamvarapanthal. The film has story by Reghunath Palleri.

Pauran in January:

Jayaram's new film Pauran is a political thriller directed by Sundardass for Dolphin creations. This film is expected to release on the second week of January. Geetu Mohandas plays the heroine. Jayaram plays Divakaran, an upright MLA who cleans the party of its evil and corrupt leadership headed by the chief Komalan and his associate Bhargavan. Kalabhanvan Mani plays the villain along with Vijayaraghavan.

Sobhana is going to do more films @ Malluwood :

It looks like Sobhana is going to do more films in Malayalam after Mambazhakalam was declared a hit. Her decision comes at a time when our superstars are finding it difficult to find heroines to be paired opposite them. With younger girls like Meera, Kavya, Navya and others refusing to act with them, Sobhana comes as a blessing. Sobhana who was on a long sabbatical has signed two more films in Malayalam. In Jayaraj’s Makkal she plays the role of Killeri, a mad woman. She roams in the streets and footpaths and unknowingly becomes pregnant and gives birth to a lovely baby girl Manasi .

Meera Jasmine's sister to act in serial:

National Award winner Meera Jasmine's sister Jeni is following in the footsteps of the former. Though Meera entered showbiz through the big screen, Jeni has chosen her entry through the mini screen. She has accepted an offer from K.K. Rajeev, whose serials are a hit with TV buffs. She plays the role of a mother who has lost her child in "Orma". Jeni was getting offers even before Meera joined movies but turned them down as her parents were against her joining the film industry.

Famous photo inspires next Jayaraj film :

Filmmaker Jayaraj is now taking a real life story made famous by a photograph to celluloid. After the mainstream and highly successful "4 the People" and its Tamil and Telugu remakes, it is time for him to turn to good cinema. And he is doing so with "Makalkku".In 1990, T. Rajan Poduval, a well-known photographer working for Malayalam newspaper Mathrubhumi, had photographed a woman patient sitting in the veranda of a mental hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She was seen clutching a bundle close to her body. Also visible were two tiny legs hanging out of the bundle. Fourteen years later, Rajan met the same woman and her child at the same hospital. The baby had grown up to be a beautiful teenager, and the mother also had improved. That became possible with the help of a particular doctor. Jayaraj, a national award-winning director, has two other National award winners acting as the doctor and the mentally challenged woman: Suresh Gopi and Shobhana respectively. Suresh Gopi won a national award for his performance in Jayaraj's "Kaliyattam". After a long gap, Shobhana appeared in a Malayalam film again in "Mambazhakalam". "Makalkku" is going to be an entirely different experience for the two-time National Award winner as she speaks only one word in the entire film: "Killeri".Jayaraj has alternated between aesthetically good films like "Kaliyattam", "Bheebhats" or "Santham" and commercial ventures like "Millennium Brothers" and "4 the People".

Bharat Chandran IPS to begin soon:

The shooting of Renji Panicker's Bharat Chandran IPS with Suresh Gopi in the lead role will begin on December 27. The film has story by Renji Panicker and produced by Thomas Pattara. It is after a short gap, Suresh Gopi once again goes before the camera. Two stories are almost ready for the action hero. The other film directed by Shaji Kailas has been named Shoot.

Suresh Gopi in Shaji Kailas' film: Suresh Gopi will do the lead role in Shaji Kailas' new film named Shoot. It will be an action film produced and directed by Shaji Kailas. Suresh Gopi enacts the role of a crime branch officer. B Unnikrishnan pens the script. Shaji Kailas-Suresh Gopi team has given many hits earlier.

Laya makes her debut in Malayalam! :
Laya, the leading actress in Telugu cinema is making her debut in Malayalam opposite superstar Mammootty in the film titled Thommante Makkal. It is a very strange thing that all leading actresses in Malayalam are making rapid strides in other languages like Meera Jasmine, Gopika, Asin, Navya and others. And back home, our superstars depend on Tamil and Telugu heroines like Meena, Padmapriya, Sriya Reddy from other languages to be their heroines. Thommante Makkal is produced by top banner, Lal Creations and directed by Shafi. The film will be shot in and around Kochi and later in Udumalpet in Tamilnadu. The cast also has Rajan P Dev as Mammootty’s father and Lal as his brother along with Salim Kumar, Janardhanan and Mohan Jose. Sanjeev Sankar is the cinematographer and Alex Paul is the music director. Thommante Makkal will be April 14th 2005 release.

Mammootty, Mohanlal team up again:

After a gap of four years, actors Mammootty and Mohanlal are all set to team up once again. They were last seen together in Shaji Kailas' Narasimham. Aashirwad Cinemas who produced Narasimham is producing this film too. The shooting of the film will begin next year. The director of the film is yet to be decided.

Mohanlal turns director:

Mohanlal plays the role of an aspiring film director in debutant Roshan Andrew's new film titled Udayananu Tharam. The script is written by Sreenivasan who had struggled himself for many years as an assistant director in the early days of his life.Udayananu Tharam will be light-hearted comedy that takes a close look at the other side of tinsel town. Lohithadas the well-known script writer and director plays an important role as Pratap.

Quick progress of Mohanlal-starrer movie :
"Mambazhakaalam", the latest Mohanlal film that has attracted a lot of attention, is fast progressing in and around Alappuzha. The widespread interest generated is on account of the return of three-time National Award winner Sobhana to the Malayalam film industry after a gap of nearly three years. The duo have several all-time Malayalam hits to their credit and the last time they appeared together in a film was four years back in I.V. Sasi's "Shradha". "Mambazhakaalam" is directed by ace director Joshi and produced by Aroma International. Sobhana for some time has been concentrating more on classical dancing and is running a dance school in Chennai. Last year she did "Mitr, My Friend", the directorial debut of popular southern Indian actresses Revathi, which fetched her a National Award. "Mambazhakaalam" was scripted by T.A. Shahid and Girish Puthancheri is penning the lyrics. The music is by M. Jayachandran and the camera is handled by Sajeev Sankar. The film also has an impressive cast of Cochin Hanifa, Kalabhavan Mani, Harisree Ashokan, Innocent, Shammi Thilakan, Vishu, Baiju, Sudheesh, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and Poornima. The film is expected to hit the theatres during Christmas.

Money did not bring any good to me: Actress Meera Jasmine:

This year's national award-winning actress Meera Jasmine said here Sunday that all the money she had earned through acting in movies brought her only sadness.
"I have now realised that all the money that I earned fetched me more enemies than friends," she told reporters here, some 150 km from the state capital, on the sidelines of a public function.
"I have realised even my family members are now against me and money will never bring love," said Jasmine, who won the award for her sensitive portrayal of a Muslim divorcee in T.V. Chandran's Malayalam movie "Paddum Onnu Oru Vilapam".
She filed a police complaint Saturday against her father and two sisters alleging they had cornered her property.
Jasmine, who has acted in several Tamil and Telugu films apart from many Malayalam movies, said she now wanted to do weighty roles.
When pressed for more on her personal affairs, she said: "I don't want to make any more comments because it is my personal matter."
Jasmine's father, Joseph Phillip, has blamed a director for the present controversy.
"We have done only what any dutiful parents would have done. Now it is time that she settles down," Phillip had said.

Innocent's biggest despair :

Innocent had played the father to heroes like Mammooty, Jayaram, Suresh Gopi, Mukesh, Kunhako Boban and even Jayasurya. The audience loved him in these roles. But, he is yet to play Mohanlal's father in any film. In all the films that the two had acted together, Innocent had either played Mohanlal's uncle or father-in-law. Some believe that Mohanlal is hesitant about casting him as his father because he believes that Innocent has greater screen presence than he does. And, Mohanlal has occasionally portrayed both father and son roles himself. So, he doesn't want Innocent to play the role of his father.

Dilip in Pandipada: The script of Rafi Mecartin's Pandipada with Dilip in the lead role is almost complete. The film will be directed and produced by the duo. Director Siddique too helped them in completing the script. The shooting of the film will begin in January. At the same time, Rasikan starring Dilip is almost complete.

'Maambazhakaalam', a Mohanlal mélange:

"Maambazhakaalam" , Cast: Mohanlal, Sobhana, Harisree Asokan, Sudhish and Innocent; Director: Joshi; Music: M. Jayachandran; Lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery; Producer: M. Mani. Superstar Mohanlal is today commended as the best natural actor around by his peers and critics and applauded by everyone for his magnetic persona. Veteran director Joshi and young writer T.A. Shahid have tried to cash in on these traits of Mohanlal in "Maambazhakaalam"(Mango Season), but with limited success as Mohanlal the superstar seems to overpower the actor in this film.
So, what we have got here is a concoction that can be termed as the "best of Mohanlal" (including his acting opposite Sobhana, as they have been the most remembered pair of recent times). The story is similar to Mohanlal's "Baletten", the debut of writer Shahid, which became a hit last year.M. Jayachandran's music and Gireesh Puthenchery's lyrics are not outstanding. By the looks of it, "Maambazhakaalam" will reap a good harvest at the box office.

Mammootty in Thaskaraveeran: Mammootty has been signed to do the lead role in Thaskaraveeran directed by Pramod Pappan and directed by Vindhyan and Dinan under the banner of Rasika Entertainment. The screen play and dialogues are by Dennis Joseph. Mammootty enacts the role of Thaskaraveeran in the film. Azhakappan handles the camera. Ouseppachan composes music for the film. Rasika Release will bring the film to the theatres in January.

Fourth part of Nadodikattu: It is for the first time in the history of Malayalam films, a fourth part of a Malayalam film is being made. Mohanlal and Sreenivasan who enacted the role of cops in Nadodikattu will be paired together in the fourth part too. Sreenivasan pens the script for the film. Sathyan Anthicaud who directed Nadodikattu and Pattanapravesham will be directing this film also. Priyadarshan directed the third part Akkare Akkare. It was on the sets of Udayananu Tharam where Mohanlal and Sreenivasan are together, the decision to direct the fourth part was decided.

Sibi Malayil's Mohanlal film in April: Sibi Malayil and Mohanlal who have given many hits earlier are teaming up once again. The shooting will most probably begin in April and the film has story, screen play and dialogues by Bhasurachandran. The film is produced by Noushad and Mohan under the banner of NNS Arts.

Kamal signs Mammootty: Kamal's new film after Manjupoloru Penkutty has Mammootty in the lead role. The film is produced by Howli Pottur (Chicago) under the banner of Dream Dim Productions. Kalavoor Ravikumar pens script for the film.

Christmas Releases:

Four films will be released during the Christmas season. The first one to release will be Lal Jose's Dilip film Rasikan. It is expected to release on December 13th. Then it will be Mammootty's Vesham directed by V M Vinu for Swargachitra. Mohini plays heroine to Mammootty. The other releases will be Sunderdas' film Pouran and Amritham, both starring Jayaram. Rajasenan's Immini Nalloral starring Jayasurya and Navya Nair and Hridayathil Sookshikkan with Kunchacko Boban and Bhavana are also ready for release.

Jayaram in a thriller :

Siddique is one of the most successful directors in South India who has written and directed blockbusters like Ramji Rao Speaking, Godfather, In Harihar Nagar and Friends in the past. Now he is writing a script for a crime thriller titled Viral Adayalam (Fingerprint) to be directed by his assistant Satish Paul. Viral Adayalam will have Jayaram in the lead role of a not-so-intelligent and laidback cop who investigates a murder mystery. Gopika will be the heroine of the film to be produced by Sabu Cherian, who had earlier made that blockbuster 4 The People.

Kunchako Boban getting engaged :

Kunchako Boban announced that he intends to get married to his sweetheart in April next year. Kunchako Boban has decided not to accept any new films until February next year. A formal engagement ceremony will be conducted in January next year. Marriage will take place in April.

Late actress Monisha's mother returns to big screen:

Twelve years after national award winner Monisha passed away, her mother Sreedevi Unni is all set to return to Malayalam cinema. Coincidentally, Sreedevi's film "Mayugham" is being directed by Hariharan, whose "Nakashathangal" brought instant fame to her daughter, winning her the national award at the age of 14. In the next seven years, Monisha created a huge impression on south Indian cinema before dying in a car accident. Sreedevi, a noted exponent of Mohiniattam, had acted in half a dozen films at the time of her daughter's death. Based in Bangalore, she has also acted in plays and is a fashion designer too. In "Mayugham", she is cast with veteran comedian and character artiste Jagathy Sreekumar, with Bangalore girl Mamta playing the lead role.

Mammootty - 3 & Mohanlal - 2 :

It is superstars like Mammootty and Mohanlal who played knights in shining armour to Kerala's film industry in distress. Of the few films that had a successful run here last year, most were Mammootty starrers. The six big hits of 2004 included three of Mammootty films and two Mohanlal starrers. The biggest hit "4 The People", however, starred newcomers.  Mammootty, who has been in the industry for the past 25 years, drew the crowds in the most talked-about film of 2004 "Kaazhcha". After a long time, one saw Mammootty the actor and not Mammootty the superstar. "Sethurama Iyer CBI", where Mammootty played sleuth, and action flick "Black" were his other hits. Mohanlal had two hits in "Naatturajavu" and "Mambazhakalam". However, he also had flops like "Vamanapuram Bus Route" and "Vismayathumbathu".

Kaithapram in director's role :

Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri is all set to become a director. The film has Vijay Yesudas, son of noted singer Yesudas and Deepankuran, son of Kaithapram in the main roles. Both are for the first time facing the camera. The shooting of the film will begin soon. Music will be the main theme of the film.

Shobhana to be paired with Mohanlal :

Mohanlal and Shobhana, the most popular pair in Malayalam film history who have given some memorable films like Thenmavin Kombathu are back in Joshi directed untitled film. This film is produced by Aroma Mani and the script is written by T.A.Shaheed. The locations are in Alapuzha and promise to be a family entertainer. Shobhana who was on a self imposed exile from Malayalam films have done only two English films in the last two years.

Navya Nair in a fix! :  Navya Nair is in a fix as all her recent films including her Tamil debut Azhagiya Theeye were flops. Now she is pinning all hopes on Rajasenan’s Immini Nalloral with Jayasurya. The trouble with the actress and her dad is their bad PR which leads them to all sorts of trouble. Recently she was in news for all the wrong reasons and all leading banners avoid her. She had problems with top directors like Bhadran, Kamal and others and her relationship with co-artists are also pretty lukewarm.Navya’s one-time favourite hero Pritviraj is no longer interested in working with her and Dileep also had a miserable experience after Pattanathil Sundaran. So she has turned to Tamil and has just bagged Amrutham an off-beat film directed by Kannan.Navya also has a big mouth as she is going to towns about the offers that are pouring in from Tamil and Bollywood!! She is a talented actress with no glamour and now she says: “I have two films in Hindi. One is with director Ramgopal Varma and another with a top banner”.

Sheela in Chandramukhi: Sheela the yesteryear actress who is active in the film field now after a sabbatical of 22 years has a strong character to play in Rajnikanth's new film Chandramukhi. The film is directed by P Vasu under the banner of Shivaji Productions. But it is after 30 years, she appears in a Tamil film. Other artistes in the film include Jothika, Nayantara, Vadivelu and many others. Some fight scenes of this film will be shot in Chalakudy.

Prithviraj in double role:

For the first time, Prithviraj comes in a double role. He plays dual role in Krithyam directed by Viji Thampy and produced by Sasi Ayyachira under the banner of Uthrittathi Films. Tamil actress Pooja will be the heroine of the film. Other than Prithviraj, the film will have Jagathy Sreekumar, Thilakn, Siddique, Salim Kumar, Anil Menon, Harshan and many others. The film has screenplay and dialogues by Kaloor Dennis. The shooting of the film will begin in January.

Urvasi's  re-entry :

After a four year gap Urvasi, one of the talented actresses of Malayalam cinema is back in a Satyan Anthikkad directed film where she is pitted against Meera Jasmine another gifted actress. The script of this untitled film is written by Ranjan Pramod who had made a name with comedies like Meesa Madhavan. Like all his earlier Satyan Anthikkad films, this one is also a family entertainer laced with comedy and has a message.

'Rasikan' fever grips Kerala! :

Nearly three years after that blockbuster Meesa Madhavan,a path breaking film which catapulted Dileep into superstardom, director Lal Jose, Dileep and music director Vidyasagar are back. Rasikan is releasing this Thursday (16 Dec) all over Kerala in 64 screens and is the biggest release in the history of Malayalam films. In most of the main stations Rasikan is releasing in double theatres, which means the film will take a super opening. Dileep desperately need a hit as this year has not been exactly good for the actor. Only Runway was an average hit and his recent Kathavaseshan was a colossal flop. His fans were disappointed that he was moving away from crass comedy entertainers to serious cinema but Rasikan is purely aimed at them.Even Lal Jose’s last release Pattalam with Mammootty was a flop and so both the hero and the director is looking forward to Rasikan which can salvage their sagging career and reputation at the box-office.

Lakshmi back in Malayalam cinema- Malluwood:

Talented actress Lakshmi is returning to Malayalam cinema after a long gap in I.V. Sasi's forthcoming film. In the yet-to-be titled film, Lakshmi plays an advocate.
There was a time when Lakshmi was a regular face in Malayalam films. Other than offbeat films like Bharathan's "Prayanam", she had acted in quite a few commercial ventures opposite Madhu, Prem Nazir and others. But her rise to stardom was with K. S. Sethumadhavan's "Chattakkari" in which she acted as the daughter of an Anglo-Indian train-driver. "Chattakari" was re-made in Hindi as "Julie" with Lakshmi playing the main role. Though her estranged daughter Aishwarya featured in some commercially successful films with Mohanlal, in "Narasimham", and with Suresh Gopi in "Satyameva Jayathe", Lakshmi had stayed away from the Malayalam film industry.

If this happens it will be the first time a fourth sequel is produced in Kerala filmdom. Mohanlal- Srinivasan team's Nadodikattu had two sequels but the director's changed and so also the producer.
