aa dinagalu, a trend setting film

Aa dinagalu, Kannada film directed by Chaitanya and starring Atul Kulkarni, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sharat Lohitashwa and Gnaanapeethi Dr. Girish Karnad, is a trend setting film in Indian cinema.

The story is based on the novel "dadagiriya dinagalu" written by Agni Sridhar, which is a true depiction of the events that took place during 70s in Bangalore underworld when it was ruled by Kotwal and Jayraj. What makes it even more interesting is the fact that Dr. Girish karnad himself has scripted the film along with Chaitanya.

What makes this a unique film and a first of it's kind is the fact that it's a re-enactment of true events and there's absolutely no glorification of the underworld dons and violence unlike in Ram Gopal Varma film.

Very few daring film makers have attempted such films and another film that I can remember is "Cyanide", another great Kannada movie based on the true events that took place in Bangalore when Rajiv Gandhi's killers were killed in a shoot out in bangalore.
