. Tamanna in silk saree shop advertisement

Other ads i saw so far :

. Saif ali khan for "Lays"

. Preity Zinta for a scooter

. Sachin Tendulkar for MRF ( it was a old one, not aired now )

and so on..... i ad someothers if i remeber.

ok coming to your question, first i will give preference only for the quality of the product. i wont buy a poduct because of a celebrity appearing for them in a ad. 

Forbes magazine list 10 celebrities who endorse mobile phones as brand ambassadors. out of 10, three are indians and bollywood stars.

Shah rukh khan - Brand ambassador to Nokia.
Abhishek bachchan - Motorola
Aamir khan - Samsung phones

Football star David Beckham - Motorola RAZR2 phone

Tennis player Maria Sharapova - Sony Ericsson

But they not mentioned the names : Tamil actors Madhavan endorse Airtel and Surya endorsed Aircel

Dishtv DTH Sales has been surged after the promotions by Shah rukh khan.

Now, Aamir khan the rival of SRK in bollywood has been appointed as the brand ambassador of TATASKY so, we can expect a new increase in sales for tatasky.

This is evident that people getting atracted to a product if it promoted by film stars.

Aamir khan charging nearly Rs 4 - 6 crores while Shah rukh khan charging nearly Rs 8 - 10 crores to be a brand promoter. ( As per Business Standard report )

I just want to say that we must understand that it is all in the business.It is not necessary that every brand needs a Brand Ambassador.The basic thing is that some brands need a popular face to publish its product.We CANNOT put every Brand in this list though.Brands like BMW,Mclaren,Versace,Porsche Cars,e.t.c.And the list goes on and on.But the brands here in India needs to be promoted.Therefore companies need a very familiar face to do that e.g.Hrithik Roshan for Hero Honda,Shah Rukh Khan for Pepsi and Hyundai.e.t.c!Stars do the advertisements for 2 reasons.1.Money and .2.Discounts.We cannot think that if a superstar is promoting a product he will not be paid for that or given discounts! 

Business people won't let any single opportunity to make more money, if they can earn more money through their products by getting an endorsement, they won't mind to do it.

the best example is child artiste Darsheel Safary, this young boy who is in his preteen now the brand ambassador for horlicks health drink and Spykar's OYO kids wear. he is going to promote the product through videos and photos in newspapers.
