first i like to say sorry for my poor english, i am living in chinamanoor, near theni. i like to know what's the difference between a VCD and DVD. whehter a DVD can be played in a VCD player, work saiyumma ?

the difference between a VCD and DVD is simple. we can say it's a VCD and it's a DVD. Just for a joke.
coming to the point, VCD came into existences before DVD, VCD is a just a compact disc in which you can store motion pictures with sound.
DVD is Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc.
in a vcd you can store only a data of 700 MB but in DVD you can from 4 GB to 9 GB of contents.
the quality will be high in DVD.
You can a play a VCD in a DVD player if it's a local one. on the otherside if the DVD player is a high end model, you will not be able to play a VCD.
on the reverse, on a VCD player you will be not at all able to play a DVD.
now-a-days, most of the movies are coming in DVD for sale.

VCD stands for 'video compact disc' and DVD stands for 'digital video disc'. DVD has more space than VCD. So DVD can store more things than a VCD. You can play VCD in a DVD player but DVD will not play in a VCD player as DVD is not read able by a VCD player.

The difference between a DVD and a VCD:
*It has a lot of differences...:
-A VCD (CD) can be played on a DVD player. but a DVD(CD) cannot be played on a VCD player.
-In a DVD player you can control the system which i mean that you can play the scene you want(choose) and you can change subtitles while in a VCD player you cant.. You put the CD and it plays by it self.

Just like hard disk and floppy disk, CD and DVD are two different storage devices. CD mostly has 700 MB and DVD mostly 4.7 GB space for writing. On both CD and DVD, we can write data files, audio files and video files.
VCD is CD with video/movie files.
