At home or on the go, today's students can benefit from advances in technology to help them with everything from taking notes in class to completing their homework. So, as we usher in the 2006-2007 school year here are some tips for today's teens:

Become note-savvy: Date and label each handout - it will make it much easier to get yourself organized for tests and exams. Use electronic note taking software like Microsoft OneNote and say goodbye to shuffling through cryptic pages of hastily scribbled notes. OneNote makes note-taking a breeze, but its real power becomes evident when it's test time since all your notes are fully searchable and can be organized by topic, project or date. Another top tip is to review your notes right after the class to increase your retention of the material.

Know (and use) your resources: Whether students are researching a term paper, science fair project, or working on math or science homework, with today's tech tools students can do it all from the comfort of their home computer. Using a mouse and keyboard, a program like Microsoft Student can help students struggling with the themes in an English novel, the foundations of the Industrial Revolution, or a complicated calculus formula. Make it count: Five and ten per cent quizzes may not seem worth much now, but do the math - ten quizzes make up half your class mark. And that means it all counts toward putting you in a better position for success, not to mention pressure-free for finals.
